Parks and Recreation

The Chariton Parks and Recreation Department provides recreational opportunities to the City of Chariton and its residents, as well as maintains and develops plans for public parks and recreational areas. These responsibilities include the operation and maintenance for the Vredenburg-Chariton Family Aquatic Center and the Chariton Community Center. The Parks and Recreation Director is Hannah McGourty.

Yocom Park Master Plan:

Yocom Park Master Plan was done in 2020-2021. More discussion will be happening in the up coming months.

Can Play Adapted Sports

Can Play Diamond Ball

The City of Chariton is now offering Can Play's 4-week Adapted diamond ball program designed for youth with disabilities, autism, or chromic health conditions. This is an opportunity for them to learn baseball/softball skills and game play adapted to their individual needs. This program will be held Saturdays in May, excluding memorial weekend. (5/3, 5/10, 5/17, and 5/31) From 8am-9am, at the Chariton Community Center. A parent or caregiver is required to stay with the participant throughout the entirety of the program.
